non-standard projection backdrop
Earlier on in this project I went into Hoabrt with my kilidoscope and took some photos of Hobarts buildings. Later on as i developed my consept - that Hobart becomes grey due to daily interation and iteration: again is the light at the end of the tunnel - the silver linning on the everyday, i though these old buildings illustrate the fact that Hobart is a tired old city above eye leavel so I have now decided to use the buildings as a backdrop for my non-standard promotional projection. I really wanted to have the projection playing a week leading up to the event and another projection running through out the event. I have always imagened it been projected onto on of the buildings at the main traffic light crossing in Hobart. where people are forced to stop and when they do what better to do to kill the time while the repetative traffic flows infront of them than to be introduced to the new exciting event. At the moment I'm thinking of projecting it onto the centerpoint evterance due mainly to the colour of the building as I had invisioned the projection standing agains a grey backdrop, again working with my consept of the grey city.
Spin-wheel Paint
here is my documentation of the spinwheel i created to make paintings which represent the way in which the four colours of the pinkwheel ( yellow, burnt orange, pink and dark purple) merge together through continuies spinning, much the say way in which the city becomes a grey smudge after repetatively interacting with the familar senery. Once the pinwheel stops the colours are much brighter and vibrant, much the same as when people take a brake from their normal working routines and go on a day trip (ITERATION:AGAIN) with family or friends, they see a much brighter and happier environment, the new and exciting experience, lightens up an otherwise doll and drab environment.
I had previously experimented with paint texture and really liked the way it worked with the pinwhile design as it directly relates peoples consep of what this event might be to art. I also wanted to illusrte the fleeting anf change over time aspect of the event more strongley and I thought this experiment would achive what I had in mind. though it has prehaps made the design to complex, though the event itself is complicated so it doesnt lie in that respect. I really like the paint texture it does everything i want it to do execp maybe complicate the design, so i;m thinking of keeping it but prehaps turning it down a bit.
Hobart at night
Here are a couple of photos I took of Hbart, with the intention to have them as a backdrop behind the pinwheel. the blured lights illustrating the living fleeting city and the magic of the light of the city adds to the mistery of the event. Though the event is more day time orientated and i fell asthough these images prehaps to far feched from visually representing the event!

Pinwheel by mi mate Rani

early poster designs

I then used a black low opacity layer to cover the whole poster to add to the depressing backdrop as well as demonstrating (through the circle and square cut outs) the pinwheels folded transformation, human interaction to create change through time, where as the pinwheel starts as a square piece of paper and then is folded into a pinwheel shape and once it is placed outside (like the public artworks) it is captured by wind which shifts it into a circular shape. The square also represents structure for not only architecture but sculptural objects, such as the public artworks. The circle represents eternal creation, theres so much matter in the world which makes for many possible artistic creations.
Form basic shapes such as the square and the circle comes many mathematical and artistic problems to be solved/created. Art (unlike math) illustrates questions to be answered by its audience with multiple answers. This also juxtaposes the public artworks from their surroundings, buildings have one intention, purpose, the artworks in the environment stimulate thinking, questioning.
artists produce work from their relevant cutler and implement it back into culture where it questions itself and comments on the culture it exists in. (generally speeking) It does something other than sit on it's ass n a museum.
Ow and the four layered boarder represents the four transitions/chapters the artworks develop over the four weeks.

oil rainbow

the other day on the way to uni I steped across a oil film on black bichamin and thought it was a good little seample of what I'm tring to illustrate in my iteration again consept. The beautiful rainbow colours against the black bichamin, something you dont see every day and when you do it makes you stop and admire if only for a while.

Something simular

This logo/identitie looks some what close to the ideas i've been working with however this doesn't have the 4 aspect in it although that could be incorperated with the use of colour. It has that rotational aspect and enless feature in it, the more i look at it the more I see strong conetions to ITERATION AGAIN and my pinwheel consept.
I fell as though the pinwheel already may have a strang identity of its own already and prehaps i need to creat a pinwheeel with slightly different feature of its own. A new original, unique event with a new take on public art work i guess I should be doing the same thing with the pinwheel. This would also refine my design more however the pinwhell is a strong marketing stratage for getting choldren and thus familys involved in the even so yes hmmm. (maybe something to mention tomorrow to Jame's or Karen, see what they recon.

Seasonal Affective Disorder
Seasonal Affective Disorder:
The rotating seasons bring predictable change-notably, the winter months contain less sunlight and warmth and in some people this causes annual mood shifts that are now known as seasonal affective Disorder, or SAD. According to the Mayo Clinic, the symptoms of SAD usually begin in the fall and persist throughout winter, and include moodiness, depression and lack of energy.
As ITERATION/AGAIN is held in the summer or spring I have been trying to incorperate the contrast of the winter passing and the joy in the light and warmth begining again, encouraging people to step outside, stretch their feet and go on an outing with friend or family or a solo exercise.
Kik Kat 'take a break'

Kik-kat have done some really cool and divers advertising campaigns which a lot of the the time deals with their slogan/catch phrase 'take a break' which is nearly the same as my ploy in getting people to cme see the tem art works through out Hobart and Launceston. This add has people in local parks taking a break as they the company has created wooden posters at aprk enterances and in public spaces. These posters are able to be poped apart and assembled into the perfect bench for a snack break. The mode of assembly so closely parallels the way you would snap apart a Kit Kat bar. The poster is not only interactive it's useful and it does a kindness while connecting simple pleasures with the "break" line Kit Kat's been using for years.
This concept strongly relates to the way in which i wish the pinwheel flyers to be interpreted. People are encouraged to make their own pinwheel with friends, family, or just out of personal curiosity as a break from their daily routine and have some fun by placign them in the wind and watching them spin.
